Schefflera (Brassaia actinophylla) AKA Umbrella Tree

schefflera purifies indoor air of toxic gases

Main Points:

Also known as the umbrella tree, Schefflera was once the most popular indoor houseplant in the US, growing to an impressive height of 8 to 10 feet. A smaller variety, Schefflera arboricola, now offers homeowners a smaller version of this easy-to-grow air purifer.

Easy to grow for the neglectful beginner!

Prone to pests, so ensure your plant is pest-free before bringing it home and placing it in a spacious corner of your home.

Care:

Semi-shade.

To prevent the plant from overtaking your living room, prune the main stems back to the point at which the leaves join the stem.

Water thoroughly and let dry between waterings; mist often. Feed every two weeks through March to September with a weak solution of fertilizer; feed once a month through the winter.

Grow in standard potting soil, or, to let it thrive, in a hydroculture setup.
